GOING WITH THE WRONG COMPANY FOR A HIGH EFFICIENCY HEATING UPGRADE OR NEW INSTALLATION WILL COST YOU PLENTY.
Attention: There are not many engineering firms qualified to design high efficiency heating & hybrid heat recovery cooling systems. The vast majority of the engineers throughout NYC will tell you they are proficient in high efficiency application design but they simply try to cut and paste from manufactures PDF’s and do very little actual work. If your engineering quote seems to good to be true, it almost certainly is. (You always get what you pay for.)
Attention: There are even less qualified plumping- heating contractors in NYC that understand how to install high efficiency equipment for commercial applications. (Make sure you check references, ensure your chosen installer can prove the he or she has satisfied clients, that had similar projects done in the past.)
Attention: High-efficiency heating equipment is being installed incorrectly all over the city.
Sandy created a boom of heating work.
With all so many UN-knowledgeable plumbers out there, so many tents without heat and hot water and so many building owners and property management companies in the relentless pursuit of saving money, many mistakes have been made. Many people wanting to get heating systems “off the floor” went with tankless water heaters and combi boilers, and many sizing & installation mistakes have been made. With all the city inspectors being pressured into passing inspections so people can get heat and hot water again, post Sandy, many systems have passed inspection that should not have passed.
We have seen small to large problems with every aspect, in every portion of nearly every brand of high-efficiency heating systems while on consultations/ inspections. Sometime we find problems in just one and sometime multiple areas. Small piping problems (pictured above) equal huge efficiency losses and high-efficiency equipment installed incorrectly will not run efficiently at all. Venting problems can result in safety issues and health problems for tents living above the heating systems. “Simply system improvements,” when corrected lead to significant reduction of the current heating expenses and an improved safety for the tents within the home or building.
